A Waxing Moon

The Moon.

This image shows a waxing crescent moon on the 30th of November 2011. The image was taken through an 8.5 inch telescope at the University of Victoria in Victoria BC. The image is "upside down" as the lenses in a telescope reverse the image. If you were to have looked at the moon with your eyes that night, you would have seen the right  side illuminated.

The moon is such a beautiful thing to look at, so easily seen from anywhere on earth. It is however somewhat of an annoyance if you are trying to look at faint objects. The full moon is so bright that it just washes out many faint objects in the sky.
